Thieves have broken into the Rawalpindi residence of former prime minister and senior Pakistan People’s Party leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and made off with household goods worth around Rs270,000. The burglary took place at his house in Dhoke Amb, in the Jatli area, and came to light after locks were found broken at several places inside the property.
A case was registered at Jatli Police Station on a complaint filed by Ashraf’s personal secretary, Tayyab Fazal. According to the first information report, the stolen property included three air conditioners, two doors, two windows, carpets, crockery, decorative pieces and a lawn mower. The complaint also noted that locks at different points in the house had been forced open, suggesting the thieves had time to move through the residence undisturbed.

In a further twist, a domestic worker employed at the house is reported missing. Police staff on duty said the employee had not been seen since the previous night and that his mobile phone was switched off. Investigators will no doubt be looking closely at that disappearance as they try to establish how the thieves entered the house and who may have helped them.
The complainant has asked police to investigate immediately, recover the stolen items and take legal action against those responsible. Police sources have put the total value of the goods taken at roughly Rs270,000. The incident is a reminder that even the homes of senior political figures are not immune to the kind of housebreaking that affects ordinary families across the country, and the coming days will show whether police can track down the culprits and recover what was taken.
