IESCO Announces Power Shutdown in Five Cities on 4 November, With Some Areas Off for Seven Hours

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company will suspend electricity in parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal on Wednesday, 4 November, as crews carry out annual maintenance work. Most affected feeders will be off from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon, a five-hour window in the middle of the working day. A smaller group of feeders in Attock and Chakwal will go off earlier, at seven in the morning, and stay off until two. That earlier start produces the longest interruption of the day, seven hours in total.

The company has linked the shutdown to three kinds of work: annual maintenance of 11-kilovolt feeders, construction and development work, and maintenance of power transformers at grid stations. It has said that no maintenance of 132-kilovolt transmission lines is scheduled for the day, so the interruption is concentrated on local feeders serving homes, shops, schools and small businesses. The same programme also cut power across the region on 3 November, and the company has described it as part of a daily annual maintenance programme.

For households, a planned shutdown differs from a sudden fault, because it gives people time to prepare. Phones and power banks can be charged, and arrangements can be made for water motors, refrigerators and routers that will be off during the window. The schedule names feeders one by one, so find your own feeder first and note its timing.

Islamabad Operation Circle

In Islamabad, the shutdown reaches Bara Kahu, Murree, Jhika Gali, Bani Gala, Tarlai and Nilore, along with sectors D-12, E-11, F-6, F-8, G-6, G-8, G-9, G-10, G-13, I-9 and I-10. Feeders named include Rehara and Kurri, serving Mohra Noor, Bahria Enclave and the Isolation Hospital, plus CM Pak Zong and IT Park. Pindi Point, Dehla and Gharial cover the Murree road belt, while Bari Imam serves Bari Imam and Saidpur, all off from nine until two.

Islamabad 132kV D-12 Grid Station

A separate section deals with feeders from the 132-kilovolt D-12 grid station, where work will be carried out on power transformer T-2, also from nine until two. They include Railway Road, D-12 Markaz, D-12/4 and D-12/3, along with MPCHS in E-11/3, NPF in E-11/4, and Kalinjar, covering the Golra portion.

Rawalpindi City Operation Circle

In Rawalpindi City, the shutdown covers the City, Satellite Town and Westridge divisions. Iqbal Road-II serves Liaqat Road and College Road, Quaid Abad covers Bokra Road and Hazara Colony, and Dhoke Hassu covers Allama Iqbal Colony. Sarafa Bazar includes the bazaar and Batool Hospital, Gawalmandi covers Akbar Market and Jinnah Road, and Faizabad, Khanna Road and Peshawar Road are among further feeders off from nine until two.

Rawalpindi Cantt Operation Circle

The Rawalpindi Cantt circle covers the Cantt, Mandra, Rawat and Tariqabad divisions, and its list is the longest of the day. The Pakistan Railway feeder serves the railway colonies in Saddar, J Road covers Jahangir Road, and the PAF feeder covers Chaklala Scheme-I, Askari 8 and 9 and the airport area. Model Town, Topi Pump and the industrial feeder on GT Road from Rawat to Mandra are also named, along with Adyala, RA Bazar, Sowan Garden and the VIP feeder, all from nine until two.

Attock Operation Circle

In Attock, the shutdown covers the Attock, Pindigheb and Taxila divisions, including Wah Cantt, Hassan Abdal and Fateh Jang, and this is where the earliest starts appear. Five Taxila feeders will be off from seven until two: Colonel Sher Khan, Ahmed Nagar, Khanabad, Bahatar Morr and Kashif Gul, serving GT Road, Ahmed Nagar and Munirabad. Most other Attock feeders follow the nine-to-two pattern, including Qazi Abad, Hattian and Sara-e-Kharboza.

Jhelum Operation Circle

In Jhelum, the divisions are Gujar Khan, Jhelum-I and Jhelum-II, and feeders again run from nine until two. Scheme-1 serves Nagel Umar Khan and Jhanda, Kulia covers Dhok Kunjah, and Mal Awan reaches Tal Khalsa and Mohra Bago. Kountrilla, Qazian, Bilal Town and Zubair Shaheed are also listed, along with Mangla Cantt, Phadial and New Cantt Jhelum.

Chakwal Operation Circle

In Chakwal, the shutdown reaches the Chakwal, Dhudial, Pind Dadan Khan and Talagang divisions, and here too construction-work feeders start at seven. Those early feeders include Mureed, Al-Qaim Mill, the PAF feeder, KSM Unit-3, Dharabi, Talagang City, Jhatla, Mogla, Peera Fethal and Dholar, all off from seven until two. Remaining Chakwal feeders follow the nine-to-two pattern, including Karyala, Millat Chowk, Kalar Kahar, Islamia Chowk, Khanpur City and Kot Sarang.

Anyone in the five cities should check whether their own feeder is named, note the exact window, and plan the morning accordingly, because the difference between a five-hour and a seven-hour interruption matters for water storage, cooking, and work that cannot wait until the afternoon. IESCO has presented the shutdown as maintenance rather than a fault, and maintenance of this kind, however inconvenient for a day, is meant to reduce unplanned breakdowns later. Still, the scale of the 4 November schedule shows how much of the region’s local network is being worked on at once, and for households named in it, tomorrow is a day to prepare for in advance rather than to discover by surprise.
