PCB Opens PSL 12 Signings, Sets January 23 for Player Auction

The Pakistan Cricket Board has fired the starting gun on the 12th edition of the Pakistan Super League, opening the direct signing window on Friday and unveiling a pre-season roadmap that stretches from an October signing period to a March 2027 tournament.

According to the board’s announcement, PSL 12 will be staged from March 18 to May 2, 2027, featuring 44 matches across 46 days — 40 league fixtures followed by four playoff games. In a first for the league, the tournament will spread across five to six venues, taking top-flight T20 cricket to more Pakistani cities than ever before and bringing the PSL 2027 action closer to fans nationwide.

The PSL direct signing window, which opened on October 23, 2026 and closes on November 23, allows each of the eight franchises to sign one marquee player directly — provided the player did not feature in either of the last two PSL seasons. The provision gives teams a valuable route to land big international and domestic names outside the auction room, and early decisions in this window will set the tone for squad building.

The PSL 12 player auction itself is locked for January 23, 2027. Before that, a franchise workshop scheduled for next week will settle the remaining mechanics of the season: the player-retention deadline, the pre-auction trade window, the auction rules and the playing conditions under which PSL 12 will be contested.

The announcement comes as the league looks to build on an expanded and increasingly competitive format. Peshawar Zalmi are the defending PSL champions after defeating the Hyderabad Kingsmen in the PSL 11 final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on May 3, 2026. Across eleven seasons, the eight-team competition has grown into Pakistan’s flagship sporting property, and the board is clearly pitching the 12th edition as its most ambitious yet.

In a notable structural move, the PCB has aligned the domestic calendar with the PSL pre-season cycle. The National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments will serve as the primary talent-identification events feeding the PSL auction, offering domestic performers a clear pathway into the league — and potentially into national team contention. For emerging cricketers across Pakistan, the coming months represent the most important shop window in the domestic game.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi described the 12th edition as the league’s “most ambitious yet”, while PSL Chief Executive Salman Naseer said taking the tournament to five or six venues brings it closer to supporters across the country. With direct signings, trades and retentions all unfolding over the coming weeks, the squads taking shape now will define the PSL 12 title race — and the January player auction promises to be the winter’s biggest cricket storyline in Pakistan.
