The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has moved to end confusion among medical aspirants, confirming that the minimum 60 percent marks requirement for admission to MBBS and BDS programs across the country remains unchanged.
The council issued the clarification after reports circulating on digital media suggested that the FSc Pre-Medical eligibility criteria had been relaxed. The PMDC dismissed those claims outright, stating that the existing admission regulations continue to apply without any revision.
Under the rules, every candidate seeking admission to MBBS or BDS programs must secure at least 60 percent marks in FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent examination. The PMDC stressed that this threshold is mandatory for both public and private medical and dental colleges in Pakistan, with no exceptions for either sector.
The announcement carries particular weight for the current admission cycle, as thousands of students compete for limited seats in medical and dental colleges. The PMDC noted that candidates must also satisfy the remaining regulatory requirements laid down in the council’s admission regulations.
The FSc marks threshold has long been the first filter in Pakistan’s medical admissions pipeline, sitting alongside the MDCAT entrance test and other eligibility conditions. Any change to the PMDC’s admission framework would require formal regulatory action, which the council made clear has not happened.
With the clarification now on record, prospective MBBS and BDS applicants are advised to plan their applications around the standing 60 percent requirement and to verify eligibility details directly with the PMDC or their chosen medical and dental colleges rather than relying on social media claims.
