Huawei’s New Osta Sub-Brand Takes Shape as Its First Two Phones Leak Ahead of Launch

Huawei is preparing to launch a new smartphone sub-brand called Osta, with two flagship-level phones expected to debut under the name. The details come from two well-known Chinese tipsters, Digital Chat Station and Fixed Focus Digital, who say the brand will launch with the Osta O1 and the Osta O1 Pro, and that the Osta name will also appear on the phones’ retail packaging. Huawei has not officially announced the brand or confirmed any of the specifications, pricing or launch dates, so for now the picture is built entirely from leaks, though a leaked image of retail packaging and recent trademark filings suggest preparations are well under way.

Earlier reports had suggested Huawei was developing a sub-brand called Xingmang, which translates to Starlight or Starburst. The latest leaks indicate that Osta will be its official English name. One report had also floated Starburst as a possible name, but the tipsters now say that was either a mistranslation or a colour name. The shift matters because Osta is the name buyers will actually see on the box.

Osta O1 and O1 Pro to Feature Different Designs

The two phones will reportedly look noticeably different from each other. The standard Osta O1 is expected to feature a display curved on all four sides, along with a large circular camera module on the back, a familiar Huawei flagship design. The Osta O1 Pro, by contrast, will reportedly adopt a wider design with narrow bezels on all four sides and a horizontal camera strip on the rear.

The Pro model is tipped to feature a 6.39-inch flat LTPS display with 1.5K resolution and an unusual 16:9.5 aspect ratio, roughly five to three. That would make the phone considerably wider than conventional smartphones, which typically use screens around 19.5:9 or 20:9, and the bezels are said to measure only about 1.05 millimetres on all four sides. The reported dimensions, 144 by 87 millimetres, would make it six millimetres shorter but 15 millimetres wider than an iPhone 18 Pro.

Huawei launched the Pura X Max, its first wide-screen phone, in March this year, and followed it with the Pura X View, a non-folding version of the same idea, which went on sale in China in September. The Osta O1 Pro appears to build directly on that experiment, and reports suggest it will use a new camera module design rather than simply reusing the Pura X View’s hardware. One leak also points to a flagship chip from Huawei’s Kirin 9 series, along with three colours: Starry Sky Black, Nebula White and Starry Sky Purple.

Osta O1 Pro Memory and Storage Options

According to the leak, the Osta O1 Pro will be available in four memory configurations: 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage, 12GB with 512GB, 16GB with 512GB, and 16GB with 1TB. A leaked image of the phone’s retail packaging reportedly confirms the Osta O1 Pro name and shows a configuration with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, which is the top option in the range.

The first Osta smartphones are expected to offer specifications and pricing comparable to Huawei’s flagship devices, which represents a change from earlier rumours. Those had suggested that Xingmang would focus on mid-range smartphones powered by Kirin 8-series chipsets. The higher pricing could be partly related to rising memory costs across the smartphone industry, which have been pushing up phone prices. Nothing is confirmed, but the configuration list points to a premium product rather than a budget one.

Huawei Will Continue Making Wide-Screen Phones

The Osta O1 Pro’s wider display has raised an obvious question: does Huawei plan to move this smartphone design exclusively to its new sub-brand? One of the tipsters has answered that directly, saying Huawei will continue offering wide-screen smartphones under its main brand. That means Osta will not replace Huawei’s existing wide-screen lineup, and buyers can expect future Pura and Mate phones to keep the wider format as well.

The clarification matters because it shows how Huawei sees Osta fitting into its range. A sub-brand lets a company reach different buyers and test new designs without diluting the main name. Huawei has been here before: it sold its Honor sub-brand in 2020, when United States sanctions made it hard for Honor to keep operating under Huawei’s ownership, and Honor has since grown into an independent rival. Osta would be a very different exercise, a new brand built from scratch inside Huawei at a time when its flagship business is recovering.

The launch timing remains unclear, though reports suggest an unveiling in early November, after an earlier expectation of an October announcement passed. Huawei has directed questions about the reports to its official announcements, which is its usual response to leaks. Until the company speaks, the Osta O1 and O1 Pro remain rumours, but unusually detailed ones, backed by two reliable tipsters, a retail box image and trademark filings. If the leaks hold, Huawei is about to add a new name to a smartphone market where it is already experimenting with shapes and sizes few rivals are willing to try.
