IESCO Announces Power Shutdown for Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Three More Districts on 2 November

Residents across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum should prepare for a planned power shutdown on Monday, 2 November, after the Islamabad Electric Supply Company announced that supply will be suspended on 181 feeders of 11 kilovolts across its region. The outage is scheduled maintenance rather than an unplanned breakdown, and most affected feeders will remain off from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon while crews carry out annual feeder maintenance, construction work, and servicing of transformers at grid stations. The lights will therefore go out at a known hour, for a known reason, and for a limited period.

A small number of feeders will stay off for longer. Six feeders connected to the 132-kilovolt Lakar Mar grid station in Attock will remain suspended until three in the afternoon, while maintenance on the Mangla to Old Rawat line and the Lakar Mar to Tamman line will run until four in the afternoon, although no grid station is affected by that work. Each feeder therefore has a return time set by the work attached to it.

Islamabad Operation Circle

In the federal capital, the shutdown reaches E-7, F-7, F-8, G-6, G-9, G-11, I-8 and I-10, together with Bara Kahu and Kotli Sattian. The affected feeders cover Margalla Town and the Orchard Scheme, the Aabpara and Melody markets in G-6, the F-7 Markaz and F-8 markets, and streets in G-9 and G-11, as well as Ghouri Town, Khana Dak and Pir Meher Ali Shah. The nine-to-two window covers the start of the working day and the school run.

Rawalpindi City Operation Circle

In Rawalpindi City, the shutdown covers the Satellite Town, Rawalpindi City and Westridge divisions. The list includes Saidpur, Shamsabad and Faizabad, Ojri Camp and Murree Road, Muzammil Town, Khanna Road and Noora Road, and the old city heart around Raja Bazaar, Ganjmandi Road, Sarafa Bazaar and Gawalmandi. It also reaches Westridge, Misrial Road, Tench Bhatta, Chairing Cross and Kamalabad, the newer housing around I-14 and I-16, the old airport area and the Benazir Bhutto Hospital feeder. Checking a feeder name therefore matters more than relying on a general city-wide announcement.

Rawalpindi Cantt Operation Circle

The Rawalpindi Cantt circle covers the cantonment itself and the Tariqabad, Rawat and Mandra divisions, and it also includes feeders on the 132-kilovolt Korang grid station, off for transformer maintenance. The schedule names Haider Road, Adamji Road and Mall Road, Rehmatabad, and the Chaklala schemes, railway schemes and Askari housing areas, together with Girja Road, Adiala Road and villages towards Kallar and Mandra. It also includes Gujar Khan, the security division directorate, the Army House area, the judicial complex, the Noor Khan Base feeder, the RIC Hospital feeder and Fatima Jinnah University.

Attock Operation Circle

In Attock, the shutdown is spread across the Taxila, Attock and Pindi Gheb divisions, and it is here that the longer three o’clock finish applies to several feeders linked to the Lakar Mar grid station. The standard nine-to-two feeders include Taxila and Wah Cantt, Tarnol, Hassanabdal and the settlements around Kamra and Attock Khurd, as well as villages on the Pindi Gheb side. The feeders running until three include Injra, Maqsood Shaheed, Aman Pur, Chhab, Maira Shareef and Dhaknair, and residents on those feeders should plan for an extra hour.

Chakwal Operation Circle

Chakwal’s shutdown covers the Chakwal, Dhudial, Pind Dadan Khan and Talagang divisions, along with feeders on the 132-kilovolt Chakwal grid station. In Chakwal town, the schedule includes Ara Bazaar and Urdu Bazaar, the grain market and railway road, the district complex and villages around Mureed. Further afield it names Dhudial, Shahpur Syedan, Basharat, Dalwal, Lilla Town and Jalalpur Sharif, and on the industrial side it includes the Kohinoor spinning mills units, Al-Qadir and Alrizwan textile mills, and the Pakistan Air Force area at Mureed.

Jhelum Operation Circle

In Jhelum, the final circle, outages are planned in the Jhelum One, Jhelum Two and Gujar Khan divisions. The city feeders include Karim Pura and Ramzan Pura, the cantonment area and CMH Road, Rohtas Road, and the settlements around Baga, Nougran, Bolani, Chapran and Pakhwal. The schedule continues through Chak Daulat, Jakkar, Chamala, Mangla and Gaddari, the villages around Domeli, Sohan, Sanghoi and Chotala, and Dina City, before reaching Gujar Khan with its main bazaar, Anarkali Bazaar, Ward Eight and Nine, and the villages around Nai Khangah, Chappar Sharif and Karsal.

Taken together, the schedule shows how much ordinary life depends on a maintenance calendar that most people never see. Servicing of feeders and transformers cannot be done while the network is live, so the company groups the work into a single day and publishes the feeder list in advance. That notice is the useful part: anyone who can match their home or shop to a feeder name can charge phones the night before and store water where a pump will be idle. The return time should be treated as planned rather than guaranteed, since one street can be back on while the next is still waiting for its crew.
